Quiltvertiser #1

Welcome to My World

The rantings, philosophies, and memories of a retired military, ex-diplomat, tattooed biker chick, quilting o'lady, pagan college student step-mom.

No guilt trip here - I refuse to to cave into that trap - about anything. Everything happens for a reason (Karma? Fate? Destiny? Dumb Luck? or Free Will...) and it is what it is. I've come to a point in my life where I can accept that.

Eveyone always told me to write a book, because I have so many funny stories, life experiences, unique view points...but, a book? What a pain in the ass. Blogging seemed like the next best thing, so, if you're ready (and there's room enough for everyone!) fire up the bikes and lets ride....

Off to the Fair

It's the last fair of the season. Weather's turning cooler, trees are really changing. Last funnel cake, last carmel apple, last hurrah for the summer!

Talk about chapping my a**

http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/special-report/transcript/who-went-sin-city-your-dime

This was on Special Report with Brett Baier, Fox News, and I quote:
Biting the Hand...

President Obama's aunt, who was recently granted asylum after it was discovered she had been living in the country illegally, is blaming the U.S. for its immigration problems.

Zietuni Onyango told a Boston TV station, "If I come as an immigrant, you have the obligation to make me a citizen." She also said she was assigned public housing despite her illegal status, saying, "I didn't take any advantage of the system. The system took advantage of me."

Are you KIDDING ME? And we wonder why this country is going to hell in a hand basket....this pretty much answers a big chunk of that question.

More Quilts!

From traditional quilts, to avant garde...the work that goes into these, it's just amazing. My work is "hack" compared to these masterpieces.

OMG. Once again, I was completely BLOWN AWAY by the quilts...or should I say works of art!

I'm so glad

That our government is spending my hard earned money on "projects" like this. Tell me, exactly how many jobs did this "stimulate"?? How, exactly, is this helping our economy "recover"?? No wonder the American public is so outraged at Congress...me included.

Feds Spent $800,000 of Economic Stimulus on African Genital-Washing Program http://cnsnews.com/news/article/75198

WTF????????

What a beauty!

I sit here, in jeans and a sweatshirt, remembering our trip to the Keys. The warmth, the sun, the smell of the ocean. Yeah, it was only a month ago, but...it was also a world away!

US poverty on track to post record gain in 2009

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100911/ap_on_bi_ge/us_poverty_in_america

According to this article by HOPE YEN and LIZ SIDOTI, Associated Press Writers Sat Sep 11, 2:13 pm ET

WASHINGTON – The number of people in the U.S. who are in poverty is on track for a record increase on President Barack Obama's watch, with the ranks of working-age poor approaching 1960s levels that led to the national war on poverty.

And the hits just keep on coming!

Rasmussen Daily Presidential Tracking Poll

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/daily_presidential_tracking_poll

And the list goes on...America's tired and fed up with this Administration, this President, this Congress. Harry Reid saying, "It's not my fault" just isn't cutting it. (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/senate/harry-reid-i-had-nothing-to-do.html) We need our "leaders" to take responsibility, to make the right/hard decisions and put the country above their politics, above their "I'll do/say anything it takes to get re-elected" attitude.

I can't imagine why

People would not (or don't) brush their teeth. If I go for more than 24 hours, my teeth feel like they've got moss growing on them, and it's nasty. Granted, you don't need to put 27 pounds of toothpaste on your brush, like they do on TV - the packaging actually says to use a "pea size" amount of toothpaste, but I guess the admen figure if you see a huge glob of toothpaste on the brush on TV, that's what your suppose to do. That way, you'll use up more toothpaste and then need to buy more. It's all in the marketing. If you've just got plain jacked up teeth...well, I can understand that. Orthodontist's are expensive. but you can still brush!

A Story

While I was stationed in Germany back in the '80's I was standing by the telephone booth (remember those? They existed before the cel phone was invented), waiting my turn when this car comes to a stop across the street. This guy gets out, runs across the street, hands me a flower and says, "You're the prettiest girl I've ever seen." He runs back across the street, jumps back into the car and drives away. I never saw him again, and have no idea who he was. Wow. I don't know why, but I thought of that incident today...

Watches

The Ol' Man is a big fan of watches...nice watches. My dad gave me a Rolex when I went overseas for the war, and we've accumulated a few others since. Brightling, Omega, Doxa. On the first of each month, we change watches so the other watches don't feel left out. Besides, why own great stuff if you're not going to use it, be it watches, china, clothes? Why leave that stuff in the drawer? If you buy something - use it! Enjoy it!
