Excellent article from the Washington Times. Especially telling are the two paragraphs that respond to VP Biden's declaration that the country is going in the right direction:

Almost one in five American adults is either unemployed, underemployed or has lost hope. New-home sales have fallen to the lowest pace on record, and despite historically low mortgage rates, prospective homebuyers lack enough confidence in the future to make long-term commitments. Meanwhile, more people are losing their home,s and Mr. Obama's plan to mitigate foreclosure has bogged down in red tape and administrative waste.

According to a Fox news article (see above), "the Health and Human Services announced this week that under the stimulus law, health care providers must establish "meaningful use" of electronic health records to qualify for federal subsidies or risk seeing their Medicare and Medicaid payments slashed. The electronic health records must include Americans' body mass index, or BMI, height and weight."

Pardon my French, but, WTF??? What EARTHLY business is it of Uncle Sam how much I weigh? Oh, yeah, since the Government is taking over everything, distributing everything, controlling everything, they need to KNOW everything...including my weight. That way, they can tell me I can't have X or Y or Z because I weigh too much. Or that my insurance will cost 12x more because I'm overweight. Or I'm not allowed to buy Twinkies.

They've taken over health care, finances (yeah, that passed with little fanfare, unfortunately), they're working on climate control (and you can only vaguely imagine how that's going to spread it's magic fingers into every aspect of our lives from what kind of car you can drive to what kind of deodorant you can buy...). I just wonder, even if the voters "kick the bums out" in November, if this stuff can be reversed. Can this country change course? I should imagine it's going to be like trying to turn the Titanic before it hits the iceberg...or have we already hit it and only the mechanics down in the depths of the ship know the real damage? Let the orchestra play on....

The first article goes on to say, "...the legislation would establish broad new oversight of the financial system. A new consumer protection bureau housed in the Federal Reserve would have independent funding, an independent leader and near-total autonomy to write and enforce rules. The government would have broad new powers to seize and wind down large, failing financial firms and to oversee the $600 trillion derivatives market." Yeah, that's just what I want...more government. Can anyone tell me where the $ is going to come from to fund this new "consumer protection bureau"?

This video explains very well what our future will be if we refuse to acknowledge the Muslim threat. The sooner America wakes up and realizes it, the better off we'll be. I am not, however, going to hold my breath. I love America, and it hurts my heart to see the direction it's going. From the abject failure of our government to control spending (National Debt edging towards $14 TRILLION - anyone have any idea's on how to pay that back?) and our borders (Arizona, anyone?), to over-the-top political correctness (say/do anything that MAY offend anyone else....HORRORS) to ecological disasters like the gulf oil spill (those pictures of the birds covered in oil just break my heart), and I think it's only a matter of time before we self destruct...and I think that time is growing shorter and shorter. Reminds me of the old "doomsday clock" who's hands inch closer and closer to midnight.

Where's the outrage when they want to build a mosque at Ground Zero? "United" States?

Are we really the "United" States of America anymore? This country is so fractured. When did that happen? When did it become acceptable to be a Mexican-, African-, Latino-American instead of an AMERICAN first? When did we become less of a "melting pot" and more of a "salad bowl"? Why do we stand by and allow our elected officials to use our money to bail out specific entities (AIG, Detroit, etc), while we drown our children in red ink? What happened to pride in a hard days work versus entitlement? What happened to the rights of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness"? Health care isn't a right. We can't expect the "haves" to support the "have-not's" by force...that's Socialism. America is a Republic. American's are individuals and need to take responsibility...not default everything to the government. It's time to stop blaming everything on someone else. But the question remains...how do we turn it around?

In King, North Carolina, a "state of emergency" was declared on Friday because of SEVERE WEATHER (i.e. a SNOW STORM). Not a civil riot, not because of a military uprising, not because of a militia outbreak, but a SNOW STORM. I'll say it again, a SNOW STORM.

The good citizens of King, North Carolina, were informed that, because of the "state of emergency" because of a SNOW STORM, they were "alcohol restrictions" a curfew and....hold on to your hats, folks, "a ban on the sale or purchase of any type of firearm, ammunition, explosive or any possession of such items off a person's own premises."

"We appreciate the support and cooperation of everyone with our efforts to keep the citizens of King safe," Paul May, the King Chief of Police, said.

WTF??? Alcohol restrictions? Gun bans? Under the guise of keeping citizens "safe"....from a snow storm? Is this America or Russia? The creeping begins...can you see it? It starts small, seemingly inconsequential. It starts "somewhere else", and it won't happen in my town/here. But once that snowball (no pun implied!) starts down that slippery slope - and, unfortunately, that snowball is rolling, it's going to be awfully hard to make it stop. It's going to get bigger (abet, slowly, insidiously), but it's going to creep until John Q. Public wakes up one morning and he's found out he's lost all his rights. And Mr. Public will wonder, "how did that happen?". Well, Mr. Public, it's happening right now. Unfortunately, I don't think there are enough true Patriots out there anymore to take a stand and say NO, THIS ISN'T RIGHT. How sad...how sad for this once great country. Our founding fathers are spinning in their graves at what we've become.

Haiti

I really don't care about Haiti. It was a dump before the earthquake, and it's a dump now...with fewer people. I disagree with spending $100 Million additional taxpayer dollars on Haiti. According to Wikipedia, "According to a World Bank report published in 2004, Haiti requires more than US$1.3 billion in aid for 2005 and 2006. In July 2004, a donors’ conference awarded Haïti more than US$1 billion in pledged aid for 2005 and 2006. The United States pledged US$230 million in aid through fiscal year 2006." Like that money was well spent (not). How interesting is it that Haiti and Dominican Republic are on the same island, and you sure don't hear the DR screaming for foreign aid. Doesn't America have enough of our own problems? We sure don't have an extra $100 Million laying around to share. Horrible things happen every day...we can't be the savior of the world. If that's harsh, so be it. My dad said to me, "Look out for #1, because no one else will". I'm looking out for #1...and that doesn't include texting "haiti" to 90999 to donate $10 to a country that's a soup sandwich.

The headlines just make me PHYSICALLY SICK. Every day, the news reports the "progress" made on the healthcare bill, which, by the way, is UNFAIR! WRONG! BIASED! According to the New York Post today, more backdoor deals are cut to get this monstronsity passed: “The sweetheart deal, hammered out behind closed doors (so much for transparancy!), will save union employees at least $60B over the years involved, while others won't be so lucky – they'll have to cough up almost $90B. The 40% excise tax on what have come to be called “Cadillac” health-care plans would exempt collective-barganing contracts...” So much for “all men created equal”...I guess I'll have to move to Nebraska and join a union! I fax my elected representatives every day...and today, every phone line was busy, so I tried to call...busy. I hope they're getting the message! It just makes me wonder...what is the spark going to be that blows the powder keg of resentment wide open?

I'm sure y'all have been keeping up with the "health care reform" (and I use that term very loosely!). What a joke. The American people put up a fit when they 1,000 page original version came out, and now, Congress is pushing through a 2,074 page package??? How many of Congressmen have actually read, much less understand, that bill?? From the news, the current version is going to cut Medicare, raise taxes, and will cost $2.5 TRILLION from 2014 to 2024. Talk about screwing our kids. I had gotten this e-mail and it went along the lines of Social Security is broke, the post office is broke, Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac are broke (and are asking for another $25ish billion bailout, by the way), etc. (meaning, of course, that all these government programs are BROKE), and now Congress wants to run health care?? This country is some $12 TRILLION dollars in debt! Hello? What part of the Constitution provides for Universal Health Care?? What part of the Constitution gives Congress/the President the authority to (mis)manage Health Care?? The Ol' Man reads the headlines to me every morning, and it just turns my stomach. I've already called/e-mailed my "elected representatives" and told them I will NOT vote for ANY currently seated "elected representative"....we need those bums OUT!
